GREEN BANK HOUSE, ROBIN HOOD'S BAY

Green Bank House, built in 1706 is a fully restored grade II listed cottage, located in the old village on Fisherhead and within a minute’s walk of the beach. There is a large open plan sitting/dining room with a log burner, as well as a cast iron electric stove. The cottage has been decorated and furnished to a high standard with free unlimited WiFi, two Smart TVs with Netflix included, and a Bluetooth speaker. The high end kitchen has fully integrated appliances and is well equipped.

The cottage will sleep up to 6 people (4 adults) in two double bedrooms and a twin room for children only (2 children maximum up to the age of 12) and there are three bath/shower rooms.  We provide bed linen and two white fluffy towels per guest, but please bring your own towels for the beach (and a towel and bed for your dog).

To the rear of the property is our patio, with garden furniture and BBQ, where guests are able to get away from it all whilst enjoying the sea air. Guests are also welcome to sit outside the front of the cottage where there are wonderful sea views.

Sorry, but the cottage and patio are non-smoking. 

We welcome one well behaved dog (over one year old and up to 12kg maximum), but we ask that you don’t allow him/her on the furniture or upstairs, we have a lovely sofa and the upper floors have carpets all of which we want to preserve. Guests are also asked not to leave their dog unattended in the cottage at any time. We also ask that your pet is left closed in the kitchen only overnight (and not the sitting room or upper floors). Please dry off dogs if they are wet ahead of bringing them back into the cottage as this helps maintain the cottage for future guests to enjoy.

The cottage also comes with a parking permit for Fisherhead car park, which is available for your use.  However, we do ask that you ensure you leave it on the coffee table in the cottage at the end of your holiday for our next guests to use. 

Robin Hood’s Bay is a picturesque and unspoilt fishing village situated on the stunning Yorkshire Heritage coast between Whitby (the landing place of Bram Stoker’s Dracula) and Scarborough.  ‘The Bay’ has had a colourful past, starting out as a fishing village and becoming one of the major smugglers villages of the East Coast in the 17^th and 18^th centuries with many a tale about all the houses being linked by secret doorways and underground passages.  It is told that whenever her majesty’s customs officers were in the area a bolt of silk could be landed in the dock and passed from cottage to cottage without ever seeing the light of day until it emerged at the top of the not insignificant bank.  

The old village is a maze of narrow winding cobbled streets with higgledy-piggledy stone cottages perched one on top of the other, many clinging to the sheer cliffs, which plummet to the sea below.  The vast beach (at low tide) has it all, good firm sand, rock pools and for the patient, fossils can be found in the soft cliffs.  The village is popular all year round and is perfect for summer holidays or winter breaks and forms a good base for the enthusiastic walker with both the Cleveland Way and the Coast-to-Coast paths.  Not to mention the outstanding natural beauty of the North Yorkshire Moors with its steam railway (featured in the popular Harry Potter films), Broxa and Dalby forests and many picture postcard villages to explore. 

There are some great old pubs in the village, we particularly like The Victoria for family friendly food, and The Laurel just the sort of place to drink good beer all afternoon on those wet days. There are also great restaurants such as Bramble’s Bistro, tearooms such as Elle Estelle’s and Tea Post & Post, and Muir Lee stores (our village shop) and we are incredibly lucky to have some amazing artisan shops, such as Jessica Hogarth (famous local artist), Bertie’s of Bay, The Toy Shop and more.  Should you wish to venture to the top of the hill, there is an excellent post office cum newsagents cum general store – they sell car park passes for either of the council car parks at the top of the village, useful if you have two or more cars.
